Yeah, I was thinking of "paved roads" but of course the Romans also paved roads. There are so many possibilities. I'll check back tomorrow and see if the list is completed. :D

The internal combustion engine would have been a good choice, but was perhaps subsumed under the automobile. The clock is on the list but had already been mentioned.

No, no, no, no, no, no. Is there something about playing the classical guitar that fogs our brains? here's another hint. Although #10 is thought a modern invention, its origins are actually quite ancient. Aristotle was one of many who have been puzzled by one of its basic principles.
