Most memorable sports event?

Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

The other day 5 of us watched the movie of the Jamaican Bobsled team. I was surprised that I was the only one who had watched them on telly in the 1988 winter olympics. None of my friends knew it was a true story.

To add another one to my list, and again on television, the 1983 America's Cup, race 7. I had met John Bertrand, the Australia skipper, years before this race and then again in 2009 when I was privileged to fly him and his wife on a scenic trip over Lake Eyre and he remembered me. I got to ask him about those last 2 legs where Australia 2 came from behind on the downwind leg and then hold off Liberty to windward to win the series and end the longest unbeaten run in sports history. I cannot begin to describe what Australia was like on that day, it was like nothing I had experienced before or since.

While growing up in Pittsburgh, PA in the 1960's, I watched Roberto Clemente perform, with ease, regularly, what most people would think impossible.

The single moment that comes to mind is the scene of Frank Shorter breezing his into the Munich stadium to capture his gold metal. I also remember imposter trying to steal that moment.

USA vs Russia hockey, Lake Placid Olympics.
[/quote]Oops, forgot about that one. Make that number one on my list as well. And I'm not even a hockey fan.

Me too. I lived in California at the time and the game was broadcast live on TV at 3:00 (or 4) AM local time. I got up to watch it.

Hermann Maier's crash in the Downhill at the 1998 Nagano Olympics. (He went on to win the Super-G and the Giant Slalom a few days later.)

The 1989 earthquake during the world series. We were in the barracks watching the game when the TV screen went to snow. I joked "we are probably going to have an earthquake"... then the building moved back and forth.

Well as a long-suffering Chicago Cubs fan, the last World Series!

And as far as the USA-USSR hockey goes, remember the 1960 American squad also beat the Soviets at Squaw Valley, I actually was there to see it.

Everton coming back from 0-2 down at half time to win the FA Cup in 1966 3-2. I was only 7 years old. Especially rememeber the Everton fan who ran on the pitch to celebrate the third goal, a policeman grabbed the back of his coat and he slipped his arms out leaving the policeman lying on the turf with the coat in his hands. So funny to see it happen
