Marine biology and Sandy Cheeks

Post by Andrew Fryer » Sun Jul 09, 2017 6:27 pm

I'm watching Spongebob anew. I'd always been mystified by the presence of Sandy Cheeks, but it suddenly dawned on me that she is secondary - really the biodome and the tree in it is what's primary, and she is just an extension of that idea. But when I Google underwater biodomes, all I get is Spongebob hits. What's going on, surely there are lots of experiments growing plants and trees in underwater biodomes? OK, you might ask if I'm not taking this too literally, but since Hillenburg was a marine biologist, and cyclops plancta exist, and the Patrick/brain-coral ep is my favourite, then perhaps the biodome is meant to be taken literally?
