Has anybody else been experiencing lag/lagging after downloading the newer version?

Yes. I think it has to do with the extensions - now they are all labelled "legacy" because Firefox is changing soon how they do extensions. So I figured there is a check of some sort happening every time I start Firefox, and it takes time to go through all of them. But if you have no extensions installed, that would invalidate my hypothesis.

I've had performance problems with FF, and one of the FF process was using about 15% of my cpu for quite a long time and was doing some undefined read/write operations on my hard disk, so I decided to switch to Opera.
