Can I be the Grinch and say Bach and guitar don't mix...

Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

Dunno about you, but if I hadn't heard Lenny Breau (and Buddy Emmons) on Minors Aloud make a jazz piece out of a Bach Bourree, I doubt I would've taken up the classical guitar. Plus there was John Williams and Julian Bream ...

I just feel like Bach music needs to have weight to it. The dainty shrill pitch of those god awful Pro Arte strings, is no match for what Bach should sound like...
I suggest a dose of Bach as recorded by Paul Galbraith (8 string), Narciso Yepes (10 string), or Goran Sollscher (11 string). One of Yepes' main reasons for adopting the 10-string was that he felt he was "only playing half of what Bach wrote". Or words to that effect.

I'll take the Chaconne on classical guitar any day over the violin version. Just don't like those double stops on the violin.

Hell a harpsichord...now that'll do nice, or a pipe organ, anything but a little squealing six string guitar box.
What about the four string violin or cello (and of course the viola and double bass too)? :)

I had a go at the BWV 996 sarabande on a Yamaha GL1 last night whilst watching telly. It was fun. The stretching was easy, lol, but some of the ornaments were a bit close for comfort.

Actually I have the Paul Galbraith cd. I got it at my thrift store for 50 cents...I'm not complaining.

But I still think Bach on guitar is sort of like what rock stars do to the blues scale...it's so overdone.
