Good or Bad

When I first saw this picture of four classical guitars made into a table my first impression was how sad...I mean, it might be nice to have one but what a waste of beautiful guitars and how did they bend the necks. What do you think? Good?... or a waste of some fine instruments.

Hopefully they weren’t great instruments. I think it hideous and perhaps not terribly practical, but it is undoubtedly an ingenious novelty and no doubt a satisfying talking point for its maker and owner. Thanks for posting.

I have to say, I have never seen something like that before. Thanks for sharing it. Interesting, too, how the sound holes have been adapted as drink holders. And, I wonder, too, how the necks were shaped, unless they were purpose built for that table. What kind of market would there be for such furniture? Or was it a one-off?

Good as a work of art..but as already mentioned not very practical.

I'm not sure what's going on. What have they done with the bridges, are they standing up or flat (and the fretboards, for that matter)? If flat, is it mainly a photo-illusion or veneer-work or something?

There are other images of this on the web, with more dots per inch, which are clearer. The bridges and fretboards look solid/3D to me Andrew which is why I suspect it’s not very practical as a table. Sure looks like 4 guitars with just the necks cut, bent/altered.

Can’t find anything about the maker or construction though.

How do you tune it ? :D

I'm ambivalent and don't quite know what to think. On one hand, if they are low end junk guitars then I would hope students would have better options.

On the other hand ... drink holders? OMG. I can understand if it was a fondue table with submerged flaming Sterno canisters to heat the cheese. :D But drink holders? Travesty. What's next? Cigarette ashes into the sound holes? Add dirt and plants?

Yeah, to me it's hideous. Apart from everything else, it just looks awful.

I see the designer prefers cedar to spruce, so that's another debate score for the cedar side. The spruce lovers need to respond. I suggest a spruce guitar banquet table.

No. Whatever it is, it is not art.

No. But if the backs and sides were Dalbergia retusa then would not the table be in Rococobolo style?

I define 'art' as follows:
If people get upset over something useless then it's art.
Happiness is when what you think what you say and what you do are in harmony.
