YouTube likes/dislikes and views

Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

YouTube likes/dislikes and views

Post by soltirefa » Mon Jan 08, 2018 4:03 pm

The other day I was watching a guitarist's video which was nice, but not spectacular. It was only a couple days old and had hundreds of likes already. I wondered how this was possible. Then I noticed that every single day he subscribes to other people's YT channels. Ah hah! Be more social. Tell others you like them.

Also, being clever with the tags you put for your video will guarantee more watches. I have noticed some people put the tags in several languages and with every possible permutation even remotely related to their video.

So views, likes/dislikes should be taken with a grain of salt.

Likes, views and subscribers can be bought as well. There are a loads of YT videos that I enjoy, but I really dislike that platform with its juvenile approach. Plus I hate being bombarded with ads in an attempt to force me into paying for YT Red. I'm hoping for a viable alternative. A lot of YT content creators talked about flipping over to vid.me...which is now apparently defunct.

I don't pay any attention to the likes/dislikes and don't use them. I don't care what others have liked and don't expect them to care what I like. Zero influence for me.

exactly...
YT itself offering it to anybody and there are a lot of other businesses that do the same.
But some videos (music) naturally make people interested
and some folks are playing damn good and some naturally charismatic ...

Therefore if someone expect that by liking others and subscribing to their channels will make him, his videos "popular'
- he is mistaken.
It would not work that way...
I'd better speak by music...Please listen my guitar at Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, etc.

People surf using software that changes the IP address and just click likes for money ... doesn't mean much.
If you are publishing regularly,, Vimeo could also be an alternative ...

The sci-fi series Black Mirror has a great episode titled "Nosedive" that satirizes the like/dislike mentality of social media.

Its a bit like a product review page. Your never really sure if it is really a paying costumer or a paid service that wrote the review. Same with YT. Some are real others can be bought or doctored.

People are right that some set out to cynically gain subscribers/likes. I've even seen videos aiming to help people get more "likes" and "subscribers". They claim that people can manipulate YouTube's search algorithm by doing exactly what soltirefa suggests. Going round commenting on anything and everything. Apparently, YouTube measures "engagement"!

Of course, genuinely socialising with other musicians is a different thing. I know that for some people, YouTube offers a way of interacting with others, if they don't know enough people nearby - which is fine. And they get a lot of fun out of it.

However, I can't understand people who do what I said in my first paragraph. It seems to me they must spend many hours at it! To what end?

Haha! Me too. There are good bots and bad bots. The good bots just make measurements. The bad bots make offers.
