What music are you listening to right now?

Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

A cd by the father & son duo, "Beaucoup Blue," entitled, "Elixer." My wife and I heard them play last night at the Trent River Coffee Company in New Bern. It was a really good night of blues for me.....beginning with my favorite burger, a "Black & Blue Burger" at Morgan's Restaurant and Bar, and ending with about three hours of good fingerstyle blues.

Julian Bream and Friends. He plays Hayden and Boccherini with a string quintet. Nice!

"Wild and Free, A Christmas Album," by Jacob Johnson
I first saw him play at Ocracoke at a small festival they have there in early June, called Ocra-folk. The next time I saw him, he was opening for Tommy Emmanuel ! He plays a steel string, and he's got his own style of playing, but he's good.

I'm listening to Izhar Elias's recording "Beethoven and the guitar". I haven't listened to that much Beethoven earlier, but now trying to get a glimpse of his work.

That is a very enjoyable recording, but do be aware that most of the pieces are very much arranged, sounding quite a lot like the music of the arrangers (rather than like the music of Beethoven!). I am not knocking it -- it is a very lovely CD, played beautifully by Elias and his cohorts -- but it is only the merest of glimpses of the great composer!

Hopefully you will be encouraged to seek out some of Beethoven's other works in their original forms, and I would highly recommend almost any of his chamber music (piano sonatas, violin sonatas, piano trios, string quartets, etc.), as that is where much of his most sublime music can be found (although, if symphonies and concerti are your thing -- by all means, try those, too). Enjoy -- Beethoven's music is an exciting and intoxicating place to be (I visit there often!).

Queen's "it's Late". I don't listen to too much classical, I just play it on the guitar. Although I did just finish watching Tatyana Ryhzkova playing Capricho Arabe on you tube. The look on her face as she plays. It's as if she is getting extreme pleasure from what she's playing.
