Pan de muertos (day of the dead bread), pierna en mole verde (leg of pork in green mole sauce), sopa Azteca, tacos al pastor, arrachera (marinated flank steak Mex. style), jamoncillos (goat milk caramel fudge, a specialty of Dad's home town of Celaya), orejas (palmiers), Mexican-style roast chicken (with cumin etc.), mmm mmm! I love being in Mexico.

Right now I'm having a couple of mini apple pies and a cup of tea.

Later I shall be sweating down a lettuce in butter and mixing it with mashed potato and having it with venison and red wine pie.

My wife made chili verde with pork. It smells great. I will wrap it up like a burrito in a flour tortilla with cheese. Tomato and guacamole on the side.

A new recipe.....red potatoes with polish kielbasa, mixed together with green onions, parsley, dill pickle relish, topped with an olive oil, white vinegar, minced garlic, tarragon, salt & pepper sauce brought to a boil and poured over the other ingredients. As my husband said, "It was good, but not anxious to have you make it again" Then we had some apple sauce and cracked up....

I had Dothraki Blood Pies for supper!
Dothraki Blood Pies.jpg
These have a filling of black pudding mixed with minced lamb about 50/50, seasoned with exotic spices from Westeros (cumin, flaked chilli, salt and pepper), and a crust made with strong flour and margarine with water to bind. The crust is surprisingly short and crispy, and also slightly flaky. I made them in muffin tins, so they are not too large.

They are perhaps not quite as rustic as the version you might see being eaten on the steppes in Essos, which would look more like Cornish Pasties, but more like something that would be served at at banquet in Braavos, perhaps accompanied with a large glass of sweet red wine from Volantis.

I had to settle for Australian red, but the pies were delicious!

Last night and tonight I shall have had boiled gammon (unsmoked), boiled potatoes and steamed spring greens. Sounds boring, but I haven't had spring greens since I was a kid, and I'm enjoying them. Wish I was eating blood pies, though.

A pretty unusual breakfast, even by my standards! ....the first time I've tried this combination for breakfast. I sliced half of a yellow bell pepper, and popped it in the toaster oven, set on broil. I warmed a small bowl of leftover black beans while the pepper was broiling. I opened a can of tuna and put half of it on top of the beans. When the pepper slices started to burn around the edges, I took them out and put them on top of the tuna, and sprinkled a goodly portion of shredded cheddar cheese on top. It took about ten minutes, and it's actually pretty good.
