Lute and Harpsichord

Post by pogmoor » Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:14 am

For those who have access to the BBC iPlayer there's an excellent programme in the Radio 3 Early Music Show series entitled The Lute and the Harpsichord. The presenter, harpsichordist Sophie Yates, and the lutenist Benjamin Narvey discuss the way in which 17th century French lutenists influenced the style of contemporaneous harpsichord music.

Lots of good music - Mouton, Gaultier, Gallot, Chambonnieres, d'Anglerbert, de Visee etc. and the discovery (for me) that the French lute repertoire includes a tombeau for a dead parrot (by Charles Mouton)!

Available for another 28 days at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06k9f28.
