For those who have access to the BBC iPlayer there's an excellent programme in the Radio 3 Early Music Show
series entitled The Lute and the Harpsichord
. The presenter, harpsichordist Sophie Yates, and the lutenist Benjamin Narvey discuss the way in which 17th century French lutenists influenced the style of contemporaneous harpsichord music.
Lots of good music - Mouton, Gaultier, Gallot, Chambonnieres, d'Anglerbert, de Visee etc. and the discovery (for me) that the French lute repertoire includes a tombeau
for a dead parrot (by Charles Mouton)!
