Strings with Purple ends?

Post by apark1980 » Sun May 08, 2016 6:23 pm

Hi

Bit of a long shot perhaps - I recently played a Ramirez 130 anos in a shop, and really liked the strings that were on it - they seemed just the right hardness /tension for me. The ends where they tie into the bridge were purple. They weren't what was supplied with the guitar by the maker I was told but the guy in the shop couldn't tell me what they actually were. Does anyone recognise this vague description at all?

Thanks!

They are probably Augustine "Regal" trebles.

Had a quick search for these online, and looks like a good shout, thanks!

sphsieh616, did you install those strings? Looks like an accident waiting to happen. 'Strings By Mail' has useful videos on changing strings.

The bass E looks very precarious. I agree a look at a tieing strings video would be helpful. In my opinion the pink and purple ends go in the tuner slots and get cut off. I thinks it's nicer visually. However, in the end its users choice.

I think that is what they come with from Ramirez. I asked the same question in the Ramirez shop a few years ago. They are great strings!

Yes, please do something about those strings! Loosen them (a lot) immediately before they pop out on you, and retie them at the bridge or put new ones on. The way you have the Savarez strings tied is much better.

Wait, did you intend the pun?

And I'm laughing! It was just an innocent choice of words. Along those lines my personal favorite is, 'It is what it is.'

I know this is an old thread, but are the Augustine Regals with the purple ends, hard tension, normal or light?

I've used Augustine Regal trebles which do have the purple ends.. I like them quite a bit IF the guitar likes high tension. On my current guitar, I'd probably much prefer Augustine Imperial trebles instead.

Here is a picture of the Augustine Trebles paired with High Tension Savarez corum basses, which I also like quite a bit. sphsieh616, this is a much more secure way to tie your strings and it looks cleaner too. Important to note is that the tail end should be tucked as close to the tie block holes as possible. I use 2 loops for the trebles, and 1 for the bass strings.
