Anyone tried them? How do they differ from EJ45?

When I bought my Hofner in 1966 it had (if my memory can be trusted) black treble strings. I've no idea what make they were, but when I saw the EJ49 strings a few years ago I decided to get a set, for aesthetic reasons more than anything else, and have been using them ever since. They have been fine, but don't sound much different to my ears from the EJ45 I was using previously. That, of course, may be my ears at fault...

I do find that in some lights - electric light for example - they are a little harder to see than the EJ45s.

They shouldn't differ in terms of sound - the only difference is black dye. I love black nylons for aesthetic reasons, but they are harder to see on an ebony fretboard.

Could be easily misconstrued when the context is missing

But, as you might have expected, still very true!
