String tension on a 660mm

Post by Muggins Simoon » Wed Oct 25, 2017 2:02 am

Could someone please explain to me what needs to be considered in terms of the interaction between string tension and a 660mm scale length. Thanks.

All things considered equal, one advantage of having a longer scale length is lower tension strings which may feel a little loose on a 650 may feel less loose on a 660. One may want to go lower on the tension but on a 650 they are too loose whereas on a 660 they feel fine. The end result is that on a 660, even with the difference in tension due to the scale length, the lower tension strings may result in an overall decrease in tension. If that is the goal for the player then the goal has been achieved. Another advantage is with great strings that are a little too loose on a 650. Daniel Mari 200 trebles come to mind. On a 650 they feel a little too loose but on a 660 they feel great.
be true to the one you love but have many flings with different guitars

In 2005, I had a 660 mensur guitar made by Boguslaw Terryks. A really great instrument with very nice sound and lots of power. But the effort for the left hand was noticeably higher and I tired very quickly after a short time. Even after further practice this condition did not improve. In addition, I got a paralysis, probably because of the larger stretching of the hand. I let me build a new guitar from B. Teryks with a 650 mensur. After a short time these symptoms subsided. The 660 guitar played Jakob Bangso very successfully and won several prizes at competitions.
