Gaultier, Ennemond - La Belle Homicide - lute video

Post by RobMacKillop » Fri Nov 03, 2017 3:18 pm

The beautiful assassin!

This is a French courante and double - the double fills in gaps in the melody. I've imbued it with "notes inegales", a dotted rhythm, and played it at a positive tempo to help indicate that it is a dance. I mention all this, as many people have a more Romantic approach to this piece, doubtless influenced by the title. But French lute titles often have no apparent connection with the music. Well, we'll never know for sure how it was played, but, this morning, this is how it came out of my lute...

I enjoyed your interpretation of this. I had to go listen to quite a few people play this after your introduction :D

Cheers, Hany. Glad you like it. French baroque music is among the hardest to interpret.

Nice crunchy basses, lovely music and playing as always from you! Maybe the title is the first historical use of 'the baby faced assassin'!
