Beaser's Guitar Concerto

Post by tubeman » Sat Feb 18, 2017 6:50 pm

Although the article is now archived, so I can't directly respond to it, several members seemed interested in Robert Beaser's Guitar Concerto written for Eliot Fisk. If one now searches for the piece, there is a high quality video on Vimeo of Fisk playing it with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Linn Records is also recording it. (I'd post a link to the video, but that would probably violate some rule...)

It would indeed; - I think you'll find, if you can establish the internet search terms that bring it up, we can find it that way. I'd certainly be interested.

Thank you so much for the heads up, I've wanted to hear this for a long time. I'm listening as I type and the sound is really superb, as is the playing from both soloist and orchestra. Fisk's amplification is fantastic; the guitar sounds pretty natural to me but is more than holding its own against a very loud orchestra. Amazing stuff, thanks again.

You're very welcome. I'm looking forward to Linn's recording of it--they always produce audiophile-quality recordings. Parts of the concerto look very hard and are tailored to Fisk's technique--not many will be able to pull it off, but it's nice to hear something besides the Aranjuez!

I must say that I've always been one of the Eliot Fisk naysayers (I find his playing to be a bit too erratic) but I really enjoyed that piece. Thank you so much for posting info about it. The piece really seems to fit well with Mr. Fisk's style.

I was surprised at how few people seemed to be in attendance. At least the video will help to expand the audience for that exceptional piece.

Always good to hear a new Concerto.
Regards.

It comes out May 19th on Linn Records. I can't post a link, but Google "Beaser Fisk Linn" and you'll find it.
