Exercises for strengthening P,I,M & for String Crossing

Post by Simon the Pieman » Mon Apr 10, 2017 1:24 pm

Hi - I'm an experienced guitarist who wants to get better at Picado (fast runs using P & I fingers of right hand) and also to achieve better/smoother string crossing.

What is the forum's considered wisdom on this ? Thanks in advance.

Apologies, not a well worded question. I meant to ask what exercises do you believe are most effective, with these goals in mind. Thanks

A take-off(or rip-off) on an exercise in Pumping Nylon would be to play three notes per string while maintaining the alternation. Also, probably good to check nail shape by anchoring all of the fingers simultaneously on the high e and pluck the string while leaving the others anchored. When doing something like the scale runs there isn't time for small adjustments in hand position to accommodate nails optimized for a slightly different angle.

That's a really good exercise. Even for me as a beginner.

once you start doing it , you will find other options that suits you maybe better , we all know that the more you practice the more refined your exercises will become and the more you tailor it for your own needs.
