Laurindo Almeida Moods for Classical Guitar

Post by samTN » Tue Dec 19, 2017 9:05 am

I recently purchased the book of Contemporary Moods for Classical Guitar by Laurindo Almeida which contains 23 arrangements. Does anybody out there knows if there is a recording/recordings (LP's or CD's) containing the material in the book? I am not having much luck in my online search.

Thank you

I just purchased one of his cd's from aaaaamazzon for my daughter (sorry it's already wrapped). Look there for titles.

I also listen to him on utbe. There might not be a collection that mirrors the book.

Many of the arrangement are on YT, quality of performance differs of course.

Thanks for all the responders. I am aware many of these pieces are already available in you tube but that is not what I am looking for. I want to hear them just the way Almeida played them

Almeida only recorded a couple of these. Those album titles are duly listed in the Study Notes for each piece in the book.

Here's the info I could find on Almeida's own recordings which are in this book:

LAURA
"Suenos", Capitol Records, T2345, rec. 1965

THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
"Contemporary Creations for Spanish Guitar" (a mind-bogglingly wonderful example of 1950s guitar music!), Capitol Records, P8447, rec. 1958

And as far as I know, those are the only two tracks found in the "Contemporary Moods" book which Almeida recorded.
