se dolce e'l tormento—with diminutions?

Post by gilles T » Sun Mar 12, 2017 1:21 pm

Hello all,

For years now I've been haunted by this wonderful melody by Monteverdi. It's basically a very simple harmonic pattern and I've found some good settings on the web (thanks to Arto Wikla). But this pattern is deceptively short and I'd like to add some diminutions, as this was the use of renaissance/early baroque music. Well, I know that the best I can do is to write down my own diminutions, but I'd like to have a starting point. Do you kow of any guitar/lute transcription with such diminutions ? I'm aware of the Tony McManus version, beautiful but I don't want to go DAGDAG tuning.

Thanks in advance,
Gilles
