Purcell Prelude on Segovia Volume 4 CD

Post by Carey » Tue May 16, 2017 10:24 pm

I'm looking for the sheet music for the very short Purcell Prelude (:36) which is the first piece on Segovia's 'The Baroque
Guitar' disc. Any info is appreciated. Beautiful playing and sound in this piece by Segovia, IMO.

I don't know if a guitar transcription has been published, but this Prelude is from Suite No. 6 in D Major, Z. 667. Here;s a link to a video:

Two sources for this: the "Segovia Transcriptions" book published by Berben, which is pricey but well worth the investment. Alternately, Berendol Music has a "Little Suite" by Purcell which is the first four of those five pieces. These were ear-transcribed by Carol Van Feggelen in the 1970s. Not sure how available that book may be, but certainly cheaper than the Berben book.

Thanks very much for both of your responses; they're a big help.
