Post by DLMJ-1234 » Mon Nov 06, 2017 8:27 pm

Are There Any Good Versions Of This Piece Anywhere?

I'm looking for a nice version of this work and I can't find one anywhere - can anyone help?

I enjoy the version by Trans Siberian Orchestra. There are plenty of tabs available.

Hi DLMJ-1234 :D, there is one beautiful arrangement for that song by Emre Sabuncuoglu (https://youtu.be/wrddHGBbDFI)
Check out my classical guitar arrangement for Schumann's Träumerei (in original key): https://youtu.be/n4QulIit2FU

IIRC Tim Sparks had arrangements for the whole suite for solo guitar.

My mistake - I was referring to TSO's "Silent Nutcracker".

Bridget Mermikides had a nice version that was originally in a Guitar Techniques magazine. It was also included in a collection that was published in a book a couple years ago - "The Classical Guitar Compendium"

Tim Sparks's arrangement can be found in "The Winfield Winners: The National Fingerpicking Champions 1979-1994", published by Mel Bay, though I think it's out of print. You can hear Tim himself perform it here:

Trouble is, in neither of these arrangements does it sound like anybody's dance - let alone a sugar plum fairy
Eric from GuitarLoot
Renaissance and Baroque freak; classical guitars by Paul Fischer (1995) and Lester Backshall (2008)
Yamaha SLG 130NW silent classical guitar (2014), Ramirez Guitarra del Tiempo (2017)

That's right, I've never seen a sugar plum fairy dance to a tune like these;-)

I forgot to mention that Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is included in:

Nutcracker Suite For Solo Classical Guitar (Book/CD) Paperback – March 1, 2013
by Tony D'Addono (Author),‎ Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky (Composer)
