Pads for injuries and RSI?

Post by twistedblues » Wed Feb 08, 2017 6:10 pm

I noticed Sharon putting something onto her arm in the beginning of this video

Anyone know what it is?

Anyone on here use stuff for repetitive stress injury and stuff like that?

That's strange, it doesn't look like something that would actually brace anything, it looks like it just goes over the forearm and not over any joint (i.e. the wrist).
Maybe it's just a cushion so the corner of the guitar where she rests her arm won't be digging in?

Since her guitar does not have an arm rest, it is likely that she is using that rather rigid sleeve to prevent excessive pressure on the ulnar nerve. People who play for a long time sometimes find that the nerve in their forearm becomes sensitive to the constant pressure.

It's called Luva: viewtopic.php?t=91495

This is it according to what I heard her say in a master class. And as Guit-box says the brand is LUVA. I have one myself that I use during short sleeves weather.

I've been wondering about this too.
I have noticed practicing the same 4 or 5 pieces for 2 hrs a day I am developing some rub spots on the under part of my right arm.
(Back side of forearm).
I have seen the pads like the Abel Armrest and the Pearse Sleeve and the Sleeves and Wristies that SBM has.
Anyone use these?
I am pretty sure if my feverous pace of 2hrs a day was lessened it wouldn't be an issue, but the wedding is 5 weeks out.
I am currently just wearing a soft cotton long sleeve shirt when I practice.
Coffee Roasting is like classical guitar, part technique, part art.
Without both the end result works, but never reaches what it could be.

The Abel Armrest ist a fantastic tool. When i started two or three years ago a technical workout using Käppels new Book on guitar Technique after some weeks I had serious pain in the right arm - which turns out to be Tendosynovitis.

After a complete stop of playing for four weeks started using the Abel armrest. ALWAYS ... on all guitars.
I never play without it - and its so good - never had problems again.

I use one of the sleeves from SBM whenever I have on a short sleeved shirt. It has a bit of padding, but I would not think it would be enough if you had ulnar nerve problems. My teacher "operated" on his and inserted a gel pad which suits his needs. :-)
