A collection appeared around 1820 with colored lithographs.

This is a most interesting discovery, Marieh. The reproduction is beautifully clear - unlike many facsimiles of material from that period. I love the lithographs with their atmosphere of cheerful madness, as well as the simple and tuneful music. Many thanks for taking the trouble to make it available: your work is much appreciated.

Many thanks. I've wanted a good copy of this for a long time.

How to translate "les délassemens de l'hiver" (today written "délassements") : may be "winter entertainment" ?

I do not know. But looking lithography I see that to buy a beautiful guitar you have to sell paintings and keep only the frames ...

It seems to me that the six "guitaromanie" satirical illustrations are actually lithographs which have been hand-coloured. The work dates from 1829, well before the invention of colour-lithography. They did colour by hand in those days. Does anyone know of any copy of this work besides the one (perhaps two?) at the BN-Paris?

Those of you who have enjoyed this thread are bound to enjoy Christopher Page's Gresham lectures on the romantic guitar, if you haven't already done so. You simply need to look up previous lectures on the Gresham College website. There is a series of six lectures with musical illustrations plus contemporary drawings.
