Tárrega, Francisco - Gran Jota - D10 Video

Post by MarcusStrand » Thu Dec 08, 2016 11:26 am

In this duel I take on my saltiest rival yet: Me.
The battleground is Francisco Tarrega's 'Gran Jota', and grand it is indeed, with the chords A and E doing somersaults for nine minutes and change!
"Wow that sounds remarkably tedious" you might think. Oh ye of little faith, hold on to your butts as I play with myself in the most remarkable fashion!
That came out weird..

BestDressedGuitarist ... watched the channel trailer. Did not surprise me. I guess nothing on YouTube can surprise me any more :-)
But the music is good, really. Thumbs up for that!

As music it is great. But beside musical aspect there is this other aspect that is often described as "fun".
I can't resist thinking that this creation of yours, Marcus, is of great "advertising" value of classical guitar music to plenty of these who are fans of today's pop culture, where some/many guitarists or "guitarists" are more of a show people then of musicians. Using the unusual, "funny" form you may, Marcus, make some of today's fans of average pop music to get seriously interested in music on another level.

In old days at royal courts there was a position for a jester. History tells us, that some jesters were most valuable, wise consuellors to The Crown.

I can not exclude, that it is a case of our Friend, Marcus Strand on the court of great guitar music.

Very nice playing and funny at the same time! Julian Bream did this split video playing in a DVD of his.

Thank you for the flattering analysis, I hold the fun factor in high regard as it is what I'm often looking for in music. Regardless of the genre or degree of seriousness there is always room somewhere for a bit of flare and fun.

- yes Marcus, the fun aspect understood as non pretentious, non pompous, not stiff, just bringing and enchanting good joy of life is very important in art. And I see it in your music - without any intention of flattering you :)
