Tárrega, Francisco - Lágrima - D05 (2 versions - pick your fav.)

Post by tateharmann » Mon Aug 14, 2017 3:15 pm

OK - so I don't play this one much (I must have gotten burned out on playing it and hearing it at some point in the past as it's so popular) but I want to get some of the repertoire "standards" recorded for my soundcloud and YT channel. And.. it really is quite a nice piece :) So we have here two takes done in the same session. The big differences are tempo and mic placement along with some other subtle differences. Guitar is J. Redman and strings are gut and silk. I'm playing without nails, too. Please let me know which one you prefer - thanks!

Both versions sound quite nice and I like your tone. I find both a little slow for my tastes. I do like this piece done slowly and deliberately, but this is a little too slow for my tastes. My only other criticism of the way you approach the piece is that I find you tend to hold notes too long in some odd places and it seems to make the song sound a little odd.

Just my opinion! If you are happy with it, who am I to judge?

Those comments aside, keep up the good work! Sounds great.

I'm actually not happy with these haha. I was showing one of my CG buddies (who plays with nails on a double top guitar) how flesh playing on gut strings sounds...I chose lagrima. He said, "Wow that sounds really good, you're really not using any nail? By the way...I think you're playing some wrong notes in there."

Indeed, I double-checked the music and I was playing wrong notes. I guess I've been playing this wrong my entire life haha. I plan to redo these when I learn how to play it right :) And I can speed it up a bit and play with a steadier pulse - thanks for the feedback.
