Most Innocuous Nail Breaking Task

Post by DaveLeeNC » Wed Nov 29, 2017 1:52 am

My entry(s) into this - opening a car door (scraped a nail on the handle) followed by buttoning a shirt button.

Others?

Did you misread my post to be referencing breaking your neck instead of a nail :D :D dave

Teeth from zippers can chip the edge quite easily. Sometimes enough that you can loose a couple of mm when filing smooth.

On the day of my university entrance audition, at which I was going to play the famous Villa Lobos Em study that has the entire tune in the bass, I came down stairs in the morning and slid my hand down the bannister straight into the end-post and snapped off my thumbnail. i think the natural law that caused this is a called 'Sod's'.

Just thought that I would add the "most ironic" event that broke a nail. My 'p' is a disaster. I need close to 6mm just to get from where the nail exits my thumb to the tip of my thumb. And for whatever reason my thumbnail is WAY more fragile than the others (or certainly presents more issues than all the others added together).

A few months back I tore this nail off at the base. I didn't even have enough overhang to use an Alaska Pik (my normal playing configuration - nails elsewhere). So I put a piece of ping pong ball on top of the thumbnail to create a 'home' for the Alaska Pik. After some long period of time I no longer needed the artificial nail to hold an Alaska Pik, and thought that I would (again) try the more normal ping pong ball solution of a piece of PPB underneath the nail. I tore the thumbnail off again (at the base) simply applying pressure to the ping pong ball for the first 30 seconds of glue drying.

Staircases are treacherous! I did the same thing walking down a flight of stairs in the subway right after a lesson.

So I am in a different province for a workshop, in a city I've never been to before. I really have to practice guitar for the two days I am there. I manage to organize a rental remotely, find the exact guitar I want available for rent and figure out the logistics. I land there late; hop on a taxi and find the music store just in time before they close. There it is, everything actually worked out! I grab the door to enter the store and rip my middle finger's nail in half, on the door handle. True story.
