Nails and Strumming

Post by twistedblues » Sun Feb 19, 2017 3:34 pm

Any tips on avoiding breaking nails when strumming with a pic on a steel string acoustic? I saw Paco Pena mention he glues the top of his nails for strumming flamenco style?

Every time I do this for real I cut two thin bits of insulating tape and fix them round the 'i' finger nail; the first bit goes round the underside and the other on the top side of the nail and wraps around, fixing tight as possible. Otherwise its vulnerable to serious damage! The other nails don't need this, for me. A 2nd application is often needed during the evening.

Interesting! Makes sense. Any particular brand? Or a pic of what it looks like? To model after? :)

When I'm doing DIY I use sellotape or plasters over the top of the nail and stuck down each side of the finger.

Worth adding that the tape in my technique has to be organised so it doesn't make the pick feel slippery.
