nails - again

Post by LukeMarsden » Sun Apr 09, 2017 8:52 am

hi all,

im starting to find "my tone" with my nail shape, but every-time i file them they always sound thin and weak for the first couple of days before getting back to their "best" sound .... is this normal?

Sounds like it might to keep a tiny bit longer and then file back to how they get a couple of days after filing. Also, file a tiny bit every day?

Please have a look at my thread in the technique section on the electronic nail polisher.

What happens is that if you do not polish (and I do not mean file) your nails, when you play the guitar, the strings will gradually polish your nails for you through contact - hence it will take a few days for your nails to be polished to a smooth finish.

If you use a paper with a leathery finish (as is part of the machine I mention on the thread), the nails can be polished straight away and you notice the difference immediately.

I agree with Adrian, it sounds like you may not be polishing. Most nail files leave the nail surface quite rough, even quality glass nails. If you don't already have some micro mesh buy some sheets starting at 2400 or 3200 grit and going up to at least 8000 grit.
