Sean Spurling Guitar - SF Bay Guitar Festival Dec. 2, 2017

Post by LarryATahoe » Tue Nov 14, 2017 4:01 am

Hi All,

Attached are photos of a Sean Spurling torrified Spruce and Indian Rosewood Classical Guitar under construction. This guitar valued at $6000.00 will be awarded to the 1st Prize Winner of the SF Bay Classical Guitar Competition Dec. 2, 2017 in Palo Alto, California. As of today March 13, 2017 we still have room for about five more adult competitors, register at cgwest.org.

Sean Spurling is a fine luthier based in San Francisco. He has exhibited at GFA and La Guitarra California, and currently has another classical guitar for sale at GSP for $7500.00.

I am told the spruce top on this guitar is torrified. I know that involves heating the wood. Perhaps luthiers here could discuss a little more about the process and its benefits.

"I am told the spruce top on this guitar is torrified. "

It's where the luthier threatens a guitar with being sold to me if it doesn't start sounding better.

Ha, I heard that if you get a torrified top you automatically play like the latest gfa winner!
