His recording of the Bach Lute Suites (nr. 1 & 2) that came out in the mid '60's knocked me out.

I like all of the recordings of Julian Bream that I have heard. Bream's Tarrega interpretations seem to transport me to Spain in the late 1800's (not that I have actually been to Spain at that time). I like Julian Bream's playing best when he plays Tarrega.

I love his "La maya de Goya" video recording most... :bravo:
Oh yes, he was so expressive in that playing

everything he's did was done with thought and passion.....

all his recordings are wonderful, even when the "music" isn't to my taste, I still enjoy listening.

My favourite is his recording of Pujol's Guajira.

I also have on vinyl his duet album with Williams Julian & John which I picked up for $1 at an op shop back in the 90's. Great recording.

20th Century is obviously a favorite, and now Id like to track down a copy of Nocturnal, especially for that Brouwer sonata.

I wish I could find a good recording of this as well:

Bream has some great gems in his discography that can be hard to come by these days.
For anyone who might be interested, there is a copy of Bream's EMI Nocturnal disc on the big river site right now at a not-insane price.

I like Bream's recording of the Brouwer Sonata very much.
EDIT: Thanks for the heads up about that CD. Just grabbed it!

Also I can't believe I forgot to mention Bream's "Sonata" album. Particularly for the Jose sonata, love that one.

I agree.
The sounds he gets out of the guitar during this piece remind me of a carnival! Just unbelievable.

Knikolai, I'm glad that you snagged that copy of 'Nocturnal'. I think you'll like it!

One of his best got to be the Rondo by Aguado, I remember he described that as a very difficult piece to play in the video.

Bream is like Roland Dyens, a character, it comes across in and their music has that individuality, fluency and flair. The guitar really needs that.
