A new (?) "Sarabande" by Manuel Ponce??

Post by David Norton » Sat Oct 27, 2018 1:50 pm

On YT, there's a video from August 31 2018 of "Manuel M. Ponce: Sarabande in G (Alberto Ubach, guitar)". As of this morning, it only has 6 views. I'm 2 of them.

Very skilled playing, and a fine composition. No indication of the source. It sounds more piano-like than guitar-like, so my gut feeling is that it is an arrangement. The performer is quite good.

It appears to be Ubach's own arrangement of the second movement of Ponce's "Sonata a Duo for Violin and Viola".

From Ubach's website:-
Ponce had conceived a guitar version of the Sarabande for violin and viola, a version that, however, took about 60 years to finally see the light, in this my own realization
