Antonio Jiménez Manjón: Preludio in A-Dur (11-strings guitar)

Post by Conall » Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:06 pm

Hey fellow multistringers - I discovered this video recently.

I love the sound of the guitar - and the music is very pleasant too. I know nothing of the composer but I can see I will have to investigate his music.

Anyone know where you can find his 11 string pieces? I'll admit I haven't googled him yet.

Here's another Manjon piece on 10-string guitar by a Delcamp member.

Wow, that's gorgeous - easily matches the best of Barrios. Why on earth is his music not better known! Thank a million for posting this. I definitely would like to try this piece. Not only is the piece beautiful but it sounds challenging & a great, substantial concert piece. Well done to the player too, lovely playing!

Any idea where I can get a copy, complete with original low bass notes?!

Hi Conall,

Simon Wynberg published this, I have it at home but am away this week. Will have a look when I get back to make sure it has reference to the original bass notes.

Conal, why do we have to do a Google search for you? It took me two seconds to find that his music has been published by Tecla in facsimile. Those original publications don't always show the low bass notes, as the publisher wanted to sell copies to as many people as possible, and that meant six-string players, but it's an easy task to just drop the note an octave when you think it suitable. Great music for your new guitar when you get it!

Lovely video. I love her smile at the end :-) And she is right about Segovia's guitar being originally an eleven-string.

Thanks guys, yes I was just being lazy not googling before posting - will check out your suggestions. It would be nice though to know for definite what the original low basses were (thanks for checking Richwilly!).

At worst I can, as Rob suggests, put notes down where they sound well / make sense. I could also check out recordings like the ones above to do the same.

Manjón's music looks perfect for my new 11 string (when it comes) - and will be a nice break from early music (my main interest).

Back from holiday and have the score in front of me. The edition I have is published by Chantarelle and edited by Simon Wynberg.

He has indicated which basses have been raised an octave in brackets.

It cost me the princely sum of £4.95 in 1990 or so! Being a Chantarelle edition I imagine it's rather pricey now.

Cheers, I might look for it anyway - or at least I might be cheeky & ask you for the bar / measure numbers of the low basses!!
