One of Llobet's "folk song" arrangements. This one was actually published in a choral arrangement in 1897, with Llobet's version being dated Barcelona, 6 de November 1899. The lyrics for the choral version lament "the loss of Catalonia's ancient right to autonomous government", according to Stefano Grondona's Chanterelle edition. It's often played as a Romantic piece, but it is in fact (or, more correctly, in my reading) a restless, deeply troubled piece, brilliantly harmonised for guitar by Miquel (to give him his Catalan spelling) Llobet when he was merely 21 years old - incredible.
I'd love to know what Llobet meant by the direction at the head of the score, Poc à poc - presumably little by little. He uses it also for El Testamen, where his own recording is a little stressed here and there.
