Buying a new guitar. Give me some ideas - under 15k

Post by Arduous » Thu May 17, 2018 6:56 am

I'm looking into getting a new guitar.
15,000 USD is the limit.
What would YOU get if you were getting a guitar in the same price range.
Not a dollar over 15,000, actually closer to 12,000 is ideal.
I need something with lots of volume since I play a lot of ensemble music and the players need to hear me.
So far I have considered a used Michel Bruck, a friend is considering selling his and it sounds really loud BUT it's got a thumping F# that's always even louder, some Dammann's are like that too.
Also considered a new Dieter Muller as well.
I tried a Connor and the sound is......well......not for me....lol

Open to any suggestions, thanks for your help.

Thanks

Talk to Glenn Canin about his guitars. DT but closest to traditional sounding instruments I have heard.

Hi,
I would check out for example Zavaletas Guitars (or all the other big dealers in the US, you have quite a few) and see what they can make to get a good spanish guitar for that money. I don't exactly know if you can get a Bernabé Especial for that money, but you can get for sure a M50 for it. Maybe you are more into Marin / Marin Montero...?
If you are looking into Michel Bruck - did you ever consider / have tried an Andreas Kirmse guitar?
Or Andreas Kirschner? Or Jakob Lebisch?
Loud guitar ... ensemble music - maybe a lattice braced would also serve well?! You could either check Ana Vidovics direction or look at other australian builders, in Germany there are just a few like Hein Gitarrenbau, who has a reasonalbe model of that construction.
Just my taste and my choice/thoughts shared...
Regards from Hamburg :bye:

At that pricepoint and needs I would consider a new Paulino Bernabe Especial or a used Imperial :D
Paulino Bernabe Especial 2009
Ramirez 1A 1980
Pavlos Gypas 1989
Furch FN 23 CR ( nylon )
Juan Martinez nr 55 2014 (the comeback)
Yamaha cg 110 1988 (the 1st)

+1 for Glenn Canin. Antonious (Tony) Mueller, not Dieter Muller, would be a good choice. Charles Mokotoff, a Delcamp member owns both and would be a good resource to ask about both.
My teacher and another friend owns a guitar by Ross Guitmeier who’s guitars are also loud.
All of these guitars are less than your budget.

There is a 2d hand Stenzel at GSI at the moment, and a great video with Matt Backon playing de Falla, just google "Matt Bacon plays 2007 Sebastian Stenzel". It's 10k$.

There are also some Sascha Nowak at Luthier in New York.

Of course it all depends on where you're based, USA or Europe?

It might be an idea to have a chat with Kris Barnett too. He might surprise you.

My Gore Neoclassical has huge volume and projection! Not only that, it is perfectly articulate with excellent note separation across all volume levels, from the most subtle free strokes to romping on rest strokes.

There may be transportation issues from Australia. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. If you live anywhere near San Francisco, I'd invite you to come over and play the Gore for yourself and/or sit in the audience and listen. I think you'll be impressed.

This is right in your price range. Give it a look: 2017 Paulino Bernabe PB Goldmedaille Concert Classical

(edited by MOD) Look at the Zaveletas website.

I have a Santos model guitar by Ross Gutmeier. Beautiful full voice with loads of dynamic range and volume. And significant change back from your $15K bill.

From what you say I would go for a Phillip Woodfield. The 2 I've tried were insanely loud and very traditional sounding. Personally I also really like Daryl Perry's guitars, they're more expensive though well in your price range, but perhaps not as loud since they're more traditional.
