rinneby, do you have more information regarding the Yairi 5009 guitar? What would be its rating in the Yairi family? How is it compared to the others with new model numbers like CY116, CY130, CY140?
As far as I know, before changing to the new CY-xxx model numbers, Alvarez Yairi guitars have 4 digits model names like 500x (5008, 5009, 5011) and also 50xx (5026, 5036, etc). I'm not sure what's the difference between 500x and 50xx series. Are they all made by Kazuo Yairi?
Actually, mr Yairi didn't build any guitars by him self, at least not in the mid 60s to 70s and onwards. It was (and is) a large workshop with many many employees. The 500x are low budget and 50xx higher, inspired by Ramirez 1A. Solid tops and laminated back and sides. The top model was actually all solid, 5050 I think? I could be wrong there, confusion with all those numbers. With that said, they are not high value guitars, and there are way better options out there. Keep your eyes out for the YC-250 or CY-140, it's the best ones you can get in the vintage Yairi family. You should be able to snap those for around 800-900 Euro or so.
Feel free to ask me anything about Japanese classical guitars.
