I am not too sure if the BRW has anything to do with it, but a new GC70 cost almost twice as much a GC82.

It has a lot to do with BRW (rare, protected and dwindling stocks) and the comparison is more 1,600,000 Yen to 1,150,000 Yen (from the Yamaha Japanese catalogue): approximately 1.39 times as much.

I am still deciding on buying a second-hand or brand new GC70. For a second-hand GC, I have to consider refurbishing it as I did on my GC30A.

BTW, someone had been pestering me to sell him my GC30A and I have decided to sell it to him. He played on my GC30A a year ago and met me a few times just to enjoy the guitar and he simply loved it and he also has the skill to to make it sing the way it is designed and build for.

I have decided to sell my one time "dream guitar" to this gentleman whom I feel will make better use of this beautiful instrument at a "give away price".,

I'M thinkin about ordering in a near futur a Yamaha GC 82C (probably next summer)

I was wondering if they will update the model soon.
I would love a 12 holes bridge and maybe an armrest.

It's not a deal breaker as I could add those after I bought the guitar.

Also on the yamaha canadian web site if you look at the GC82C you can see that it has the old fashion headstock wich I love, is it an option?

I very much doubt that Yamaha will be "updating" the GC82C/S anytime soon. These models came out in 2012...29 years after the preceding GC70C/71. I also think it very unlikely that Yamaha will change the bridge design or add an armrest...they stick with the traditional design approach and have done so for the last half a century. The GC82C headstock design is as you see it and as such is not an "option".

Allow at least a year from order to receipt of the guitar...and possibly longer.

Why is the headstock different on the 82c and 82s?

The GC82S followed the Segovia model formerly known as the GC71. The GC82S followed the traditional Yamaha iconic headstock used on the GC30A, GC50, GC60 & GC70.

There is another headstock that Yamaha uses on the GC30B and the GC61.

This is one reason why I am not keen on buying the GC82S. BTW, I prefer the warmth colourful sound of spruce.

The GC82S is derived from the GC71 and both have a Torres style headstock (Both designed by Akio Naniki). The GC71/82S also have a reduced head angle.

The GC82C is derived from the GC70C (which was designed by Toshiro Kato who also designed the GC30A) and has the same Yamaha headstock design as the GC30A/GC70 series.

Thank you both for the answers

I never realised that the 82c and 82S where "different" guitars. I thought that the only difference was the top!

I believe they are different construction is to match the the top. The GC71/GC82S has a flat bottom.

Also the GC82S is 366mm at the lower bout, body length 484mm, depth 93mm-101mm versus 370mm, 490mm, 94mm-99mm for the GC82C. In addition, I believe that the bridge on the GC82S is slightly longer.

New member interested in the vintage GC models. As the Yamaha Archive has not come back on line (although in other forums Yamaha has reportedly said that it will), I was hoping that someone would have a link to the spreadsheet that is said to be available. A link to resources for the FG series is :

https://theguitarmedic.sharepoint.com/P ... Parts.aspx

I haven't been able to find a similar English site for the GC models. Is anyone aware of such a site. Thank you.
