Hello every body,

I found this M. Sakurai model 8 from 1981 guitar( see pictures) advertised for 900 USD. I'm very tempted to buy it but I have some doubt about the quality of the guitar.

Is the 8 model made of all solid wood?

Are the tuners original?

Thanks to anyone can help!

Most likely solid woods yes. The tuner are not original though.

The tuners are Schaller concert guitar tuners utilizing their famous, capsuled M6 tuners for electric and steel string guitars. Most likely not original but who knows. Maybe on custom order basis though their esthetics is quite challenging. The only difficulty to switch back to more appealing tuners could be that there is a brass bushing in the middle part of the headstock, which could be difficult to remove for non professionals.

For the rest as Jon stated already, most probably all solid. Never heard about any laminated Kohno guitar.

Indian Rosewood, 100%.

What can one expect from these types of older models of Sakurai, 1990's or so...

Are these Concert models of today, or "Student" models of those years?

What are they comparable to?

thx, john

5, 7, 9 fans, who cares? The Kohno's from the mid 60s are always great :)

Exactly Jon. No matter what number of fans that Masaru use to his 60s guitars-- they sounded great. The secret is in the hands of the master luthier.

Of course they are not "student guitars" by todays standards - However, one could argue that Sakurai's models from the 70s and early 80s, numbered No.5-10 are equal of todays Yamaha GC32S/C or similar price range.

Kind regards
