Carulli, Ferdinando - op.084/02 Waltz and Trio - Video

Post by powderedtoastman » Mon Mar 21, 2016 12:06 am

Novice/intermediate player here (by my own count), decided I'd like to share a piece that I have been playing since January from Carulli's Op. 84, Trois Menuets et Trois Valzes. I heard this in an album I randomly decided to listen to on Spotify, and I was hooked on it. The only way to get the sheet music was to put in a request with BNF and have them send it from France. Minor hassle to figure out how to get the order in on their website since I don't speak French, but it was worth it!

I actually would love to share the Minuet that precedes this little waltz, and I have recently worked through it, but it's very long! Some day I will do it.

In the meantime here is Waltz and Trio. I hope you will enjoy it and I know it's not perfect so I'm always open to pointers on how to make it better.

A beautiful piece and wonderfully played! I have always enjoyed Ferdinando Carulli's pieces. I just haven't attempted to try to play any of them. Maybe I will some day. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks, glad you liked it! I think I will re-do it some time soon though.. I think I can do better with fluidity and dynamics. I see this as a piece where all the notes are there and I just have to figure out how to get a little more expressive, make it a little more dramatic!

Thanks so much for listening and commenting!
I do plan to re-post this along with the entire Minuet that precedes it, so check back in the next few months. It may be a while before I get a take that I'm fully satisfied with if I'm doing the whole thing.
In the meantime I have a couple other Carulli pieces that I'm more comfortable with, so I think I'll be posting those up :)

Really nice work.Thank you for sharing this Carulli piece. I enjoyed your piece mostly in two ways
1) It is a rather nice composition from Carulli, I wish more people would look though facsimiles to find all those hidden nice pieces and share them. I will look for the facsimile of the really charming op.84
2 I like the way you use articulation and dynamics to highlight the phrasing. Staccato around 0:15 renders well, Piano around 1:13 rocks. You have a really nice technique.

Thanks! Hard to believe it's already two years since I started playing this piece (it was definitely above my level at the time). I haven't been playing this one much lately but I do roll it out from time to time, and I should keep on it more.

I think I have better sounding guitars that truly fit me as a player, and more stable technique with both hands now. So perhaps sometime soon I will re do it and see how I can do it better! But I also have a much more grandiose Carulli piece in the pipeline so maybe I'll just see if I can get a good take of that in the near future... either way stay tuned!

I don't think the score for this is available anywhere other than the French National Library that I got it from, but I have scanned it for my personal use.. I will send you a PM, and I can share it with you if you like!
