Giuliani, Mauro - Quintetto del Turco

Post by Stephen Kenyon » Wed Feb 13, 2019 7:54 pm

This oddity I came across on imslp.org while looking for something else. It seems to be based on an aria from Rossini's 'Il turco in Italia, though I am yet to track it down further.

I've never heard it before, Stephen, so thanks for that. Sounds like you are on top of it.

Why did you buy a Ramirez 3E when you have two great Ambridge guitars plus the Semple?

Rob you missed the earlier videos, the Ramirez was donated to a charity I work for and I made the videos to support its sale; turned out not to be needed, so using the videos anyway ...

Sorry, Stephen. That was a wonderful gesture, and it sounds a decent guitar.

Very nice, Stephen!
I really like these sorts of opera based pieces by Giuliani, Carulli and Legnani. Would not have known this one otherwise!

Thanks Rob & Toastie (?), yes its fine for student instrument; Ramirez 1A guitars were amongst the first really good guitars I heard closely as played duets with one once. The 3E is a notable approximation. But I never personally felt at all close to that kind of tone.
As for the piece - I like it because it has some imitation and doesn't seem to have any other videos.
