[PDF] Tom Poore - Christmas Duets

Post by Tom Poore » Wed Oct 31, 2018 10:46 pm

To non-musicians, early November is a bit early to think in earnest of Christmas. But for musicians, this is the time to start practicing Christmas music. This is a reminder that there are 26 PDF Christmas carol duet arrangements freely available at my website:

http://www.pooretom.com/sheetmusic.html

There you’ll also find links to complete audio files for each carol—some of them live performances, some computer generated by Finale®.

Each year I do at least one new arrangement. Got an early start on my 2018 effort. So here’s my arrangement of “O Tannenbaum.”

Enjoy.

Thanks to all. Just finished another one:

That should do it for 2018.

Thanks.

I started doing these arrangements a bit over twenty years ago. With rare exceptions, published carol duet arrangements are often geared toward beginners and players of modest accomplishment. The standard of playing, however, has risen over the years. So I want to create arrangements that’ll be satisfying for more advanced players. It’s a bit of a tightrope though. I want my arrangements to be suitable for advanced players, but they also have to be accessible enough to learn quickly. After all, Christmas music is a seasonal thing—few people want to spend months practicing it.

It’s become a tradition for me to make one or two new arrangements each year. I’m pleased that people are taking to them.

Here’s another of my arrangements, “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” recorded with one my students during his lesson. Doing this recording in a lesson room made for a dry acoustic setting. (Our lesson was late enough in the evening that there were no other lessons going on around us. So at least it was reasonably quiet.) And lacking the time to set up my more elaborate equipment, we used my little Roland R-05 recorder. My student is playing a Yamaha C-40, which further limits our sonic potential.

But for all those caveats, I think we put it across decently:

I made this arrangement last Christmas. This recording was my first chance to work it up with another player.

Enjoy.
