Schubert's "Der Leiermann", last song from "Die Winterreise" in a transcription for solo guitar. Hope you like it!

I tried to find this nice piece on yt but it is performed with lovely vocals only. I wonder what it sounds like with just solo guitar.

A wonderful transcription that retains the mystery and magic of the original. It works beautifully on the guitar, as does so much of Schubert's music. Have you transcribed any more from this masterpiece? Or any other Schubert?

Many thanks to all of you for your feedback. Schubert is my all time favourite (beside Ludwig van) but I didn‘t transcribe any other music of him, to answer your question, Fabbri. I‘m very lucky that you like it and for your confirmation that it works on the guitar. „Der Lindenbaum“ could be the next project, but it will be much more difficult.

I'm looking forward to your Lindenbaum. I can see it will not be easy to transcibe, but it could sound beautiful on the guitar. At the moment I've become addicted to the Impromptus, particularly D 946, numbers 1 and 2. Not much opportunity there for a guitar transcription, unless it was for a trio or quartet: there's far too much going on in every bar. But what astonishing music!

Thank you Derekb for downloading the piece. I hope you will like to play it.
@Fabbri: When I remember well, Wulfin Lieske recorded a CD some twenty or thirty years ago with some of the Impromptus for guitar solo. I love „Der Lindenbaum“ for decades, and yes, I sing it (mostly in the car, but you wouldn‘t like to hear this 😉). Perhaps it will work as an transcription, I will try.
Cheers

@Juergen and @Fabbri : If you are interested in more Schubert for solo guitar:

I have published on sheetmusicplus for example a collection of "118 Waltzes, Landlers and German Dances for Guitar solo".

How wonderful, thank you for sharing this. . .I sang the Winterreise (as a contralto) many years ago. This is one of the most difficult Lieder to interpret /perform.

I look forward to playing it on the guitar. The Winterreise is probably the most heart-rending song cycle, one feels mangled after singing it or even listening to it intently, especially by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau in his early years, or Hans Hotter. . .or the contralto Natalie Stutzmann!

Hello richtm, Gruesse an die Waterkant! (My mother was born in Hamburg)
@kirolak It means a lot to me to listen the opinion of a singer who is able to perform Die Winterreise. I can imagine well how demanding it is. I hope you like playing The Leiermann it on the guitar!
