Schubert, Franz - Leiermann - Duo Video

Post by sniggl » Sun May 04, 2008 4:36 pm

Hi ,
after a very hard and stressful week finishing a project I felt now in the mood to try the "Leiermann" , the last song of the Winterreise by Franz Schubert. For this song its good to have a feeling of emptiness and to be tired to death....

But unfortunately now I come down with a cold - its good for the deep notes but not for the high ones as you hear at the end of the song   .

Anyhow I hope you like it.

(This time I recorded the guitar first, because its to hard to sing at the same time)

Here again a translation of the song ( I found somwhere):

The hurdy-gurdy-man

There, behind the village,
stands a hurdy-gurdy-man,
And with numb fingers
he plays the best he can.

Barefoot on the ice,
he staggers back and forth,
And his little plate
remains ever empty.

No one wants to hear him,
no one looks at him,
And the hounds snarl
at the old man.

And he lets it all go by,
everything as it will,
He plays, and his hurdy-gurdy
is never still.

Strange old man,
shall I go with you?
Will you play your hurdy-gurdy
to my songs.

Best regards

Stefan :bye:

Nice dramatic atmosphere there Sniggle, I enjoyed that. You have a good voice too.

Hello Stefan,

This is wonderful!

I was so inspired after listening to you that I went searching for my Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau/Gerald Moore recording—but now I am enjoying your version again. Thank you so much for recording this, it's magnificent,

Best wishes, V :D :merci: :bravo:

Thank you celime, thank you wolfgang.
I am very happy that I could enthuse you for this fantastic Schubert song - although the quality of my perfomance could be better...voice and guitar are not really together, but its hard to sing to a guitar player how can not hold the tempo... :D

Wow, this is great!! I love it. You did a fantastic job with this piece. I never really listened to someone singing along with a classical guitar piece before. I might have to expand my musical world now. Thx for sharing this. :D

Thanks to Wolfgang who suggested having a listen, I was treated to a very beautiful song.

Thanks Stefan. You have a wonderful voice and your CG playing is excellent. The two make a marvelous combination.

It's absolutely wonderful Stefan and I think the guitar does a much better job of conveying the atmosphere than the piano! So bleak...
and such a lovely lovely voice :flowers: :bravo: and on this horrible PC as well - can't wait to hear it on the Mac. Funny how a cold can sometimes even enhance a voice, [although yours is always very good anyway.]

Fantastic. Many, many thanks. As good as Fischer Dieskau singing. It is just as beautiful sung in English.
