Ready to play guitar, and then I need a nap.

Post by ctepsick » Thu Feb 23, 2017 6:50 pm

Hi, my name is Cristina and I recently decided to get back into classical guitar after a long furlough. My long break was because family life got so hectic and I found it was almost impossible to play as much as I should to stay at my intermediate level of proficiency :P Recently my daughter, 10, started taking cello lessons and it brought back how much I really loved playing classical music. I found a classical guitar/cello duet book on Amazon, and thought this would be a perfect time to start getting back into it. I help her practice her own music everyday, but I'm having a really hard time helping her because her music is all bass clef. I think in addition to practicing guitar I'm going to have to get some flash cards to help me on her music so I don't have to say "Good-Boys-Do-Fine-Always" to transcribe every.single.note. :D

Looking forward to getting started!

Hi Cristina,
When I started playing for a mandolin/guitar group, I found I had to play lots of continuo parts in bass clef. I learned bass clef in college for harmony courses, but I'd forgotten it, and for a while just wrote in the notes until one day it just went "click". Good for you, you'll get there: force yourself to play your daughter's music and it'll become second nature after a while. Congrats on your return to playing, I came back after a long hiatus too. Enjoy!
