Hello from Barcelona

Post by epcritmo » Tue Mar 14, 2017 7:52 pm

I'm English, but happily with my Spanish wife in Barcelona. I'm a biology teacher in a British school here.

I started playing guitar about 2.5 years ago (after a year on the ukulele) but during this time it has been all steel string. I started playing mainly finger picking blues, but now my favourite pieces to play are songs by Bert Jansch; I love his finger picking style. I also play stuff by John Fahey, Joseph Spence, and some African "blues" stuff. I'm not into strumming much.

I've thought about nylon strings for a while and finally made the move last week when I bought a "Camps CW-1" crossover, which is perfectly comfortable for me. 48mm nut, 636mm scale. I've put some carbon trebles on and I'm very happy. I'm officially a "nylon string man" I prefer the sound now to the metallic sound of an acoustic, and it's just so much easier to fret.

I don't think I'll be moving into playing classical music, although I do like to play minimal songs by Gustavo Santaolalla. At the moment I'm trying to practice simple West African stuff.

I like to talk about guitars, so that's why I am here. I am also known as sirwhale on the AGF forum - where I'm well known in the carbon fibre subforum.

Camps Primera Negra A, Cordoba Mini M, NeckUp,
Music I play/am learning currently: Bert Jansch, John Fahey, Joseph Spence, Ali Farka Touré, Bob Dylan, Santaolalla
