Hello from Vienna!

Post by derjodel » Fri Oct 20, 2017 4:25 pm

Hello from an eternal beginner

I started playing guitar almost 30 years ago, however I quit the school after a year and never learned more than a few basics... anyway, to make a long and boring story short, I kinda got back to plucking the strings (of an electric guitar) just to realise that I prefer the sound of the nylon strings rather than an electric guitar. It's just... so much nicer, plus the arrangements are much fuller. In short, it seems the fingerstyle/classical guitar is something I can play by myself and for myself (I have absolutely no other goals as to learn and play for myself).

One of the most frustrating things is finding music to learn. I started with short and simple "shape of my heart" by Dominic Miller, now I'm also learning and practicing "fly me to the moon". I seem to like a bit of a bossa/jazzy groove. Classic really isn't my thing (sorry).

I'm now looking for some new material... Found an arrangement of Michelle but it just doesn't seem to work on a classic guitar. Dunno if it's just me, but some chords there (like B#-E-A) just sounds weird.

Thanks for any pointers where to go. Oh, and video + notes (+ tabs) really help, otherwise I'm a bit lost

Hi derjodel,

Welcome to the forum! You're by no means the only eternal beginner around here. I'm sorry, but I needed to remove the link from your post, as the forum rules don't allow links to copyrighted music or to electric guitar recordings, but you'll find out all about that when you get a chance to read through them. That also means you're unlikely to find many tabs or recordings here of the sort of music you're particularly asking about, though I'm sure you'll find plenty of other material here to interest you.

Please have a look at this page for some useful information to get you started on the forum, including links to the rules and helpfiles. After your second message has been approved, you will have access to all members' scores and recordings plus the first 3 levels of the Delcamp score collections. After you have posted 20 messages, you can apply for the 020 group, which will give you access to the remaining levels. Just ask if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you around!

Best wishes,
Classical Guitar Forum.
