Guitar Notation Question (GNQ)

Post by Melode » Fri Dec 29, 2017 10:43 pm

Dear Public Space,

First, if this is the wrong forum for my GNQ, then please link me to the right page. I do not, as yet, see such a depository of GNQ precious nuggets.

Do the small Arabic digits in the ledger line spaces, and even on the lines, to the left of the note values--indicate the recommended right-hand plucking fingers, or do the numbers refer to the left-hand fretting fingers?

Cheersio,
David Melode

Hi, they're the left hand fretting fingers.

Hi David. Welcome to the forum.

Your post has now been moved to the appropriate section.

The numbers, 1 - 4, refer to the fingers of the left hand, with 1 being the index, 2 the middle, 3 the ring, and 4 the little finger. When right hand fingerings are annotated we use pima, with p being the thumb (pulgar), i the index, m the middle, and a the ring (annular).

Thank you both for your replies.

Does a page exist on the CG site with a comprehensive display of all the notation specific to playing classical guitar from non-tablature sheet music?
If so, please link me to it.
