95F with smoke blocking out the sun. An eerie orange haze is predominant. Massive wildfires in Northern CA. I live about 75 miles away and all the smoke is high up in the atmosphere there with light ash covering everything. I work 25 miles from the fires and we must use N95 masks as the smoke is palpable. Lungs burning, eyes burning/tearing. We leave work smelling like a campfire. At least I drive 50 miles south after work to cleaner air...
It's horrible. We think years are being drained from our life spans as if we have been smokers for 30 years. Global warming has set the stage for catastrophe based upon decades of forest mismanagement by idiots. Those idiots create a policy of aggressively putting out ALL fires. They also allow developers to build in fire zones with lax fire prevention regulations. The result is massive quantities of fuel dried by desiccating winds. Once ignited, much of the strategy involves "let it burn", which is what should have been done to begin with when the quantity of fuel was significantly smaller.
All that building in the fire zones? Huge profits for developers and politicians. 8400 structures destroyed so far and 44 human deaths.
This is the start of the fire season...
