"Every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain."
Homer Simpson.
I was re-reading 'A Study in Scarlet', the first Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle, and came upon this, said by Sherlock himself, defending his complete lack of interest in learning about anything not directly related to his chosen career:
'...Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before...'

I seem to have discovered this. I had been planning to give up language learning when I reached 60 anyway, but the last 12 months of struggling with Anglo-Saxon vocab have made me think my brain has now probably had enough already. Before that Plato's Laws had been killing me and I thought a change would be as good as a rest, but, nope, I guess at my age a rest is the only thing that's as good as a rest.

"Sometimes I have this dark feeling that I have no business playing my instrument, that every note that issues from it sounds like a crazed cat, that I should quit playing music altogether post haste, that nobody likes me, everybody hates me, guess I'll just go eat worms... then I realize I just need to change my strings."
