What strings come on the Yamaha GC12's and GC22's?

Post by rpavich » Thu Jan 18, 2018 5:44 pm

I have searched high and low for this answer and Yamaha's site is devoid of information about their classical guitars. I've searched here also and didn't find the answer so I ask: Does anyone know what strings come on the GC12 or GC22 series of Guitars? Brand? Tension?

If you are trying to keep a certain setup from the maker, get a micrometer and measure the thickness of the strings. Then you can pick strings that are similar. You could call Yamaha customer service. Perhaps they can tell you. Seldom are the factory strings the best strings for a particular guitar.

Yamaha S10?

Or perhaps Yamaha CN10 (cheaper):

For classical guitar
Silver wound Style.
Gauges: .028/.032/.040/.030/.035/.043
Box contents: Yamaha CN 10 Classic Guitar Strings Set - Standard Tension - Nylon

On the top GC models Yamaha provides Augustine Regal/Blue.
1971 Yamaha GC-10 (Hideyuki Ezaki)
2017 Yamaha GC82S (Akio Naniki/Naohiro Kawashima)

So I talked to the Yamaha rep via chat.

His answer:

"We recommend using standard/normal tension gauge strings in .043 to .028"
