Low Tension Basses - Recommendations

Post by Theo » Sat Feb 10, 2018 3:07 pm

Any recommendations for favorite low tension basses?

So far have tried the D'Addario, Galli, Savarez, & Aranjuez bass sets in order of preference.

The D'Addario and Galli are very similar and have extra sets of these.

Would like to find a low tension set closest in tonal quality to the Cantiga.

The guitar I've been experimenting with is the Cervantes cedar Milenia.

Augustine Black. "Black" is not the color of the strings - it just means "Low tension" in Augustine's incomprehensible labeling terminology.

Which Aranjuez did you try - Suave? If so, I am curious as to your comments on them and why they didn’t particularly appeal.

Hi Peter,

It was the Aranjuez Spanish Silver 200 LT bass set.

Both the tone and longevity left something to be desired.

The Suave is not available in bass sets alone.

However, I may order a full set and try the treble set on the Ben Silva spruce and the bass on the Cervantes.

Sounds like you've tried the Suave?

Yes, I regard both the basses and the trebles very highly. A lovely, balanced set. Just give them a few days to settle down. The trebles take noticeably longer than many sets to settle down tone wise (they sound a bit ‘plasticky’ initially).

Regards
Peter
