Post by Dejour » Sat Dec 30, 2017 2:53 pm

I hope you will enjoy my latest video/guitar arrangement of ”Canzon Francese del principe” by Carlo Gesuldo (1566-1613) the only surviving keyboard work by the composer in my brand new arrangement for solo guitar.

That was very nicely played. I'm afraid I don't really like the piece, because it appears to me like it doesn't all belong together.

Gosh, evidently Carlo was as quixotic writing for instruments as for voices - it really is weird! Another huge achievement, Christophe!

Brilliant, I really love it :D

However I thought Gagliarda del Principe di Venosa was also a keyboard work :?

The Gagliarda del Principe is written for 4 (or 5, I can't remember) equal unnamed instruments. The Gagliarda and the Canzon are the only two surviving instrumental works by Gesualdo as I know.

Are they thematically related at all?

I must admit it has been some time since I heard the Gagliarda. But as I recall - I dont think there are any link between the Canzon and the Gagliarda. But Im not sure at all.

Partly; I had an incomplete arrangement that I'd started a few years ago - I just finished it off.

...but back to the original topic. The Canzon Francese is an amazing work, and beautifully played. I hope more people will listen to it!
